Ye are gods ; becoming gods by grace.

This one is kind of deep and controversial. I pray you read it in its entirety with an open mind.

John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods. Psalm 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

These 2 verses are very controversial, and somewhat debatable, however I take them at face value and will try and explain.

When I was in college, I told my Bible and ethics professor that I believe our purpose here is to help others. He said, “close.” Years later, after my dad had died, I saw my professor again and told him, I believe, “we are put on this earth for a short time with one purpose, to learn to love one another.” He replied, “I believe you are right.”

I came to that conclusion when I was 30 years old, watching my dad die of cancer over a 2 year period. When I was a teenager and in High School, I hated my dad. My Mom hated him too at times. For those of you who knew me in High School, if you were kind to me, thank you. And if I was not kind to you, I want to apologize.

Somewhere around the age of 25, I still resented my dad but was trying to do better, to not hate, and to get along with him. That is when he told me his story, of his childhood, and the story of his parents which was never supposed to be told. I won’t go into details here, but my dad also hated his dad growing up.

I began to understand my dad did not know how to be a good father and perhaps he did the best he could. He also had problems with his mother and when I learned of that story, my anger and resentment shifted from my dad to my grandmother. But only for a few minutes because I realized I did not know her story.

When my grandmother was about 100 years old, she told her story and I realized the blame goes back to my great grandfather and probably even further.

Sadly, I did not learn to love from my dad, he did not learn from his mother, and she did not learn from her father. That is 4 generations of anger, hate, and resentment among parents and children. What I learned from all of this is that we are supposed “to love one another.”

I came up with “we are put on earth for a short time” as my dad died when he was 59. I have already outlived him in age. So to combine these two lessons, “We are put on earth for a short time with one purpose, to learn to love one another.” But that is not the end of it.

1 John 4:8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

Now if God is love, and Jesus is God, and we as believers are supposed to become like Jesus, does that not mean we are supposed to become love? I believe it does and I am not the only one.

I now believe, “We are put on this earth for a short time, with one purpose, to become love.” What is love? Love is the uncreated energy of God’s essence. And if we become love, would we not become gods?

As I mentioned before, I am not the only one. The orthodox church, I have just learned, has a doctrine of theosis or deification. Salvation in the orthodox church means to become like God. This doctrine goes back to the early church but has been abandoned and forgotten by the Western churches and their branches.

Theosis, I believe, teaches that it is our primary purpose on earth to become like God. Everything else is secondary. When we take this view of life, we begin to look at everything differently and begin to think differently.

Things we used to believe to be important are no longer important to us. Being kind, helping others, and demonstrating love become the most important things to us.

When I read, “Ye are gods”, that to me says, at least in part, “Ye are beings of love.” When God breathed the Breath of Life into man, He breathed part of Himself into man, and the essence of that breath is Love. That kind of love is genuine unconditional love, the kind we are meant to become.

We are given a chance here on earth to demonstrate that kind of love to others. That kind of love is also eternal and infinite, as are we. Some will argue that we are not infinite, but my thoughts, my imagination, and my love is infinite, and that is the essence of who and what I am!

So our purpose in Life is to love, to become love, and to demonstrate and teach that love to others. In doing so, we become like Jesus, we become the gods we were created to become. We are created in the image and likeness of God.

If you want to know who and what you are, study who and what God is. If you want to know who and what God is, look in the mirror and study who and what you are, apart from your sinful nature. Sin is our greatest hinderance and distraction in our journey of theosis.

For those of you who would argue over the meaning of, “ye are gods”, read Psalm 82:1 “God stands in the congregation of the mighty; he judges among the gods” And explain who the gods are.

Regarding my dad: God turned my hate and anger into sorrow, He turned my sorrow into forgiveness, and He turned my forgiveness into love. If we love one another, we must forgive one another and we must forgive one another in order to love one another.

I hope you enjoyed this and found it helpful. I made an outline of things to write about and a timeline but I am not following either, I am just writing as things come to me. For those who comment and send me PMs, thank you! They mean a great deal to me.

Please keep me in your prayers and pray for my health. Please join me in praying for the Holy Spirit to come and convict us as a nation and individually of sin, righteousness and judgments to come.

I believe 2025 is the beginning of something wonderful that is about to happen, I believe it’s time.

Peace be with you!
